Grateful to have been sick? Something I didn't think I would say...
This might sound a bit strange, but I'm kind of glad looking back that I suffered through that miserable flu I had a few weeks ago. Our entire family of 5 had it over a 2 week period, and frankly, it was a pretty miserable 2 weeks. Once I got my son through the dehydration and the possibility of needing to admit him for an IV, I got sick. Unfortunately, my daughter (who will be 2 later this month) also got sick at the same time.
A funny thing happened though- because we were both sick together, my busy little girl and my busy self slowed down. We snuggled a lot and just spent time comforting each other and trying to feel better. She was always affectionate towards me, but now I'm noticing that she has been even moreso since that week. She has been smothering me with hugs and plenty of "I lo you, Mom" 's. And prior to our flu, she was extremely dependent on my husband to fall asleep at bedtime. It made it much easier when he went away for the weekend after, getting her to sleep for the night.
Yes, looking back I'm thankful that my 5 days of chills and fever and general awful feelings are done. But, I guess if I had to share them with someone, I'm glad it was her. Who knew the flu could bring people even closer together?!?!?
Now husbands being sick, that is another story...
