Published Wednesday September 24th, 2008

Pianist and composer Marie-Andrée Ostiguy will open the Dalhousie Jeunesses Musicales Concerts for the Season on Saturday, Sept. 27th. The recital will be held at LER Theatre in Dalhousie at 7:30 pm. This evening program will offer music by Mozart, Schubert, Listz and original compositions.
Recognized for her talents as a performer and composer, Ostiguy just received a nomination in the category "Album of the Year — Instrumental" at L'Adisq, for her recent album of original compositions Rêverie a collection of sixteen original compositions for piano and string quartet.
In March 2008, the Quebec Council of Arts and Literature awarded her the Prix à la création artistique en Montérégie. This distinction emphasizes the rigueur of her work, her artistic integrity and her contribution to the cultural vitality of her region and recognizes that her public development activities in Quebec, Canada and U.S. contribute widely to the democratization and broader appreciation of classical music.
Following an American tour that saw her perform at the Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival in Los Angeles in 2003, she played a sold-out performance at the Cinquième Salle de la Place des Arts in Montreal. In the pursuit of her objective to bring a wider public to appreciate classical and instrumental music, Ostiguy presents cultural evenings entitled Concerts-Salon in her artist studio in Beloeil. She also hosts Rendez-Vous en Musique — a monthly television show of interviews and musical performances on channel TVR-S (canal VOX). Being very involved in her community, Ostiguy presided over la Table culturelle de la Vallée du Richelieu, from 1998 to 2000 and from 2002 to 2004. In May 2004, she became the honorary president of the Salon des Arts de Brossard and of the regional organization of the Relay for Life, organized by the Canadian Cancer Society. Ostiguy has a rich taste for learning, a great enthusiasm for getting involved in a constructive way, sharing her experience and lending her expertise.
