Letter to the editor | ‘Hike for Hospice’ thanks

Dear editor:
The Restigouche Community Bereavement Committee wish to extend heartfelt thanks to the community for making their "Hike for Hospice" a tremendous success on May 4th. Sincere thanks to Honorable Roy Boudreau and his wife Paulette for their presence, support and officiating at the ribbon cutting ceremony and for walking side by side with us. Appreciation and recognition go to all the people who came to join us for the walk, gave pledges, and bought tickets in memory of a loved one.
We wish to recognize the city of Campbellton and the Civic Center for enabling a safe venue for the walk without cost, the RCMP for their security monitoring and escort, Hachey Impressions Printing for the posters, Bert's Music for their sound system, Sobeys for water donation, The Tribune for publicity and site coverage, La Voix du Restigouche, CKNB and CIMS for advertisement.
Special gratitude is extended to Denise Caron, a family palliative caregiver for over eighteen months, as she accepted the role of our honorary chairperson in memory of Dr. Jean Laurin. Special appreciation is also extended to the family of Angus Perry of Charlo for their eloquent public acknowledgement of palliative awareness and recognition of caregivers. Ms. Caron and the Perry family led the walk down Salmon Boulevard.
The "Hike for Hospice" Palliative Care was a great way to start Palliative Care Week in Canada and to end Volunteer Recognition Week. Our volunteers for the walk were Carmelle Landry, Louise Reid, Sacha Nadeau, Jacquie Jackson, Teenie Cantin, George Thibodeau and Eldon Connors. Their devoted work and support for the committee and the Bereavement Program was an invaluable asset.
Our dream vision of Palliative/Bereavement awareness is becoming a reality for Restigouche County.
Sincerely,
Charlene Nadeau on behalf of the executive of RCBP
