To Laurence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities:

Recently, I have learned through the media that the Bathurst Airport Commission has applied to both the provincial and federal government for a 30 million dollars subsidy in order to build a new airport alongside Route 8, between Bathurst and Allardville, N.B. Their goal is to have a runway long enough to be able to accommodate the safe landing of planes with a 200 passenger capacity. Quite the dream! Where's the reality? You must realize that 80 per cent of passengers from the northern part on N.B. drive themselves to Moncton to take a plane. It is not a new infrastructure that will encourage the people of this northern area of the province to make Bathurst their departure airport. If your government has 30 million dollars taxpayers' money to waste, why not consider sharing this money with laid-off workers from the Miramichi and Dalhousie area that have recently lost their jobs?

Here's another reality check! Many business people travel to New York to lure new investors to the area. They no longer need to take the plane to Montreal and then transfer to New York. There is now a direct flight service available from Moncton! Business people no longer need "Air Canada Jazz" to access the world for business!

Here's another argument to consider! Often, Chaleur and Acadian Peninsula people, tend to forget that Restigouche is part of Northern New Brunswick. The question is: Why keep on spending money in Chaleur and Acadian Peninsula while putting aside the Restigouche area? If money is to be spent for northern New Brunswick, Restigouche should get its fair share and not limit the spending to only two areas!

In closing, I certainly hope that one could still find a conscientious government person that will affirm himself to put a stop to wasting precious and valuable taxpayer's moneys. One must not forget that Charlo Airport has the needed infrastructures in place to accommodate larger air carriers. It is cooperation between the different northern areas this is needed and not new infrastructures.... at taxpayers' cost! Only the future will be able to tell if there is a willingness for these communities to work together rather than working against each other.

I wish to thank you, Mr. Minister Cannon, for taking into consideration my concerns and I can assure you my full cooperation in regards to this issue.
