Internet contest causing stir

GASPESIE - There’s a beauty contest on the Internet that’s causing some stir and the site it’s on is based near the North Shore of New Brunswick.
The contest, Concours Jolies Gaspesiennes, has come under fire from women's rights movements, saying the contest is just another sexist way women are being exploited.
The contest allows women 18 and over from the Gaspe Coast to submit as many as three photos (no nudes) with a brief biography. Photos of the top 20 vote getters are sent to Montreal where a panel will decide which 12 women will form the calendar Interdit aux féministes (no feminists allowed). The actual prize is a professional photo shoot which will be conducted on the Gaspe later this summer.
According to the website www.joliesgaspesiennes.com, 40 people have sent letters condemning the contest. Voting took place from April 28 to May 16. The contest opened 224 women sending in photos for consideration.
