This year, the festival is offering an expanded schedule that starts on June 8. There'll be additional performances and film presentations on weekends leading up to the three day festival itself. That starts on July 11 and runs through to Sunday.

The Baie des Chaleurs International Chamber Music Festival is entering its 12th year, but artistic director Lucille Ouellette, shown here, continues to put together imaginative and even surprising programs.

Among the unusual offerings will be a silent Laurel and Hardy film with music provided by pianist and improvisation performer Gabriel Thibodeau. He'll be accompanied by young musicians from l'Académie Notre-Dame of Dalhousie. This will be followed by the silent movie It. Thibodeau will be joined by Pentaère, a wind quintet.

Other offerings will include a vocal quartet from London, a quartet that performs on eight instruments (one member is also an operatic tenor) and an actor-comedian. Adding to the variety will be a presentation that reveals what forensic science has revealed about Beethoven's death. All but the final concert will be at the L. E. Reinsborough Theatre. The last concert will be at St. John the Baptist Church.
