July meeting as quick as June
Published Wednesday July 23rd, 2008

Council meetings in Campbellton have been brief to say the least in the last few months. It took all of 10 minutes to complete its business at the regular monthly meeting on July 14, about a month after it took less than five for the June meeting.
With little business on the agenda, council announced a few donations and tender awards.
Receiving funds were: the Campbellton Richelieu Club ($200) for its annual convention and celebration of its 60th anniversary, The Salvation Army ($70) for Scotian Glen Camp, the John Leblanc golf tournament ($250) which helps families with costs for playing hockey every year and the chamber of commerce ($150 plus promotional material) for its golf tournament. Other donations included $100 to the Sports Hall of Fame and $1,000 for entertainment at Kiosk Park on the waterfront.
A tender was awarded for solid line painting of city streets to Maritime Pavement Markings for $6,235 while Central Garage was awarded the tender for two half-ton trucks at a cost of $44,900 ($22,450 each). Other local companies submitting tenders for the two trucks were Vision Ford ($47,302), Plaza Pontiac ($47,302) and Restigouche Toyota ($58,416).
Luc Enterprises had the lowest quote on a retaining wall and walkway for Minto St. at $7,300 with Lurette et Fils coming in at $8,000.
Council also announced that rather than Aug. 11, the next regular monthly council meeting will be Aug. 18.
