Restigouche in history
Published Wednesday May 14th, 2008

This was in a bag of scout photographs a reader gave to us, and from the sequence of photographs, it appears that these people are awaiting a march past of Scouts and Cubs in Campbellton. That is Mayor W.J.S. “Bill” Walsh (mayor 1960 to 1967)in in the front, wearing the chain of office. They are standing on the north side of Roseberry St. in Campbellton, just east of the old train station. Note the cenotaph behind them. This stood about where Cine Video Club now is in the Restigouche Centre strip mall. The cenotaph was later moved to Riverside Park, where it is to this day. The building in the distance was originally the stationmaster’s house, and had survived the Fire of 1910, even though it was not very far from the source of the fire.
