The art and history of our architecture

Dalhousie Town Hall, built in 1939 in concrete in the Art Deco style, is shown as it originally looked in this postcard from the Michel Goudreau Collection. Note the elegant light niches on either side of the window on the second story, very much in the Art Deco style, which are unfortunately now covered over. It was designed and built by town engineer Fred J. Bateman, who also built himself a concrete house on Brunswick St. which still stands.
