Campbellton - A Campbellton man was arrested May 7 on charges of aggravated assault, uttering death threats and a breach of probation after an incident in Dalhousie the day before.

Daniel Long made his first court appearance on May 9 and was remanded into custody until May 12 for a bail hearing. On May 12, Long asked Judge Steven Hutchinson to send him to the Restigouche Hospital Centre for a 30-day psychiatric evaluation.

Long had the charges read to him last week as well as a host of others laid on May 12, including theft, breaches of probation and mischief, to name just a few.

Hutchinson agreed to the demand and sent Long for the assessment. He returns to court on June 9 for his election and pleas.

Aggravated assault carries a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison.
