Lagacé continues his record run

ATHOLVILLE - The man is who probably the longest continuously serving mayor in Canada gets to continue his remarkable record.

First elected as mayor in 1971 after a previous stint on village council, Raymond Lagace (504) has been mayor ever since and returns with a win over Michel Soucy (333) with Maurice Power (498), incumbent Gerald Fallu (488), incumbent Roger Cormier (447), incumbent Giselle Richard-Chiasson (437) and incumbent Jean Soucy (427) serving as councillors. Also running for one of the five council seats were Gaetan Cormier (350), George Thibodeau (263) and Patrice Godin (189).

In Atholville, 1,122 people were entitled to vote with 804 showing up to vote for a voter turnout of 74.87 per cent.

In an interview with La Voix du Restigouche, Lagace thanked voters and pledged to continue the economic development of the village.

"We are a dynamic muncipality", he said.
