Shanties must be removed

Fredericton - The Department of Environment is encouraging owners of ice-fishing shelters to be responsible stewards of the environment by removing their structures from provincial waterways this month.
"In order for our province to become environmentally sustainable, all New Brunswickers must do what they can to protect our land, air and water," Environment Minister Roland Hache said. "As required by law, all owners of fishing shelters should ensure that their recreational activity does not result in the pollution of any waterway in New Brunswick."
All ice-fishing shelters and associated structures and materials on all New Brunswick lakes, rivers and coastal waters south of Bath in the west and Bouctouche in the east must be removed by March 15.
All such structures north of these locations must be removed by March 30. This order is made pursuant to Section 15 (7) of the Water Quality Regulation of the Clean Environment Act.
Failure to removed shanties from the Restigouche could result in a fine and possible confiscation of the shanty.
