City snubbed in hall selection
Once again, Campbellton will not be hosting the induction ceremonies for the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame.
The city had applied last year to host the 2009 induction ceremonies but was informed by mail that Saint John had been chosen as the host site. While the Hall is located in Fredericton, board members decided in 2002 to rotate the induction ceremonies around the province.
Campbellton has applied a number of times to host the annual celebration of NB athletics but has never hosted the event.
Runners to Boston
There were 68 registered runners from New Brunswick amongst the more than 20,000 who took part in the 111th running of the Boston Marathon April 21 with three of those New Brunswickers from Restigouche.
Leading the way for the local contingent was Belledune’s John Culligan who finished 11th of all New Brunswickers and 3,989th overall with a time of three hours, 18 minutes and 37 seconds.
Charlo’s Alain Caron was 17th in the NB contingent and 5,971st overall after finishing in 3:26:32. Roger Levesque of Balmoral was 39th (11,702nd overall) after running 3:48:54.
Cheryl Murray was a DNS.
Rotary field is not the Oval
Campbellton’s Rotary Field is not the Oval Field on Arran St. as many might have thought after reading last week’s Tribune.
In the Campbellton Minor Soccer Report, it was noted that the soccer headquarters is at Rotary Field which it is, but Rotary Field is behind Sugarloaf Senior High School on Arran St., not at the Oval on Dover St. as reported.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
