
Local fighters in tough


Campbellton - Boxers from the region had some stiff competition at a card held at the Campbellton Lions Club April 26.
Local boxers hosted others from around the province as well as those from Quebec and Prince Edward Island in the 13-bout affair.
Kale Morency of the Eel River Crossing Olympic Boxing Club, 90 lbs, won a unanimous decision over Kevin Barrett of the Moncton F.I.S.T.S. Boxing Club.
Mikael Savoie, 119 lbs, lost a split decision to Brandon Blaquiere of PEI, while Danika Levesque of Campbellton dropped a split decision to Cassie Wast in a battle of 126 pounders. Campbellton's Luke Martin was on the losing end of a referee stopped contest when he took on Robert MacMillan on PEI in a 160-pound bout.
The same thing occurred in the Jonathan Gregan (ERC)/ Alexandre Lynch 150-pound contest after Lynch continued a first round onslaught into the second. Jesse Gregan (ERC) lost on points to Junior Luce of Chandler (145 lbs).
Some local boxers did pick up victories however, led by Campbellton's Maxime Levesque, 185 lbs, who won by knockout over Jason Ouellette of Matane. Chris Bosworth also won on points over Denis Asple of Matane in a 145-pound bout.
Ringside doctor was Dr. Christian Dufour.
The next boxing card in the region will also be at the Campbellton Lions Club on May 31.
