MacPherson 10th at mid-am

Sussex - Two members of the Restigouche Golf and Country Club were amongst the 73 golfers who took part in the New Brunswick Mid-Amateur Golf Championship in Sussex last week.
Darren MacPherson led the local charge finishing in 10th place while Gerry Duguay did not play his final round last Friday.
The long ball hitting MacPherson was tied for seventh, just four shots back of the leader after round one on June 25 at the 6,213-yard par-72 layout in Dairy Town.
He started the championship with a birdie on the first hole but gave that shot back with a double bogey on the second and a triple on the third. A birdie on five and a bogey on seven left him at three over par 39 after the front nine. After a bogey on the par-3 13th, MacPherson rebounded with back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16 for a one-under 35 on the back and two-over 74 after round one.
His second round was uneventful for nine holes, going out in even par 36, but a double on 10 and bogeys on 12, 17 and 18 left him at four over par 76, six over for the championship but within striking distance only five shots back of the leader.
He fired a 77 in his final round and was at one point, within only a couple of shots of making the NB team but faltered on his final few holes en route to a respectable 10th place finish.
He was two-under par heading into the back nine, but bogeys on 11, 12, 13 17 and 18, along with a double bogey on 15 saw his -2 turn into a plus-five for the day.
Duguay's opening round didn't go as well as the little lefty would have liked. Duguay carded just five pars on the day, along with two birdies and three double bogeys to finish in a four-way tie for 38th at 84.
He made up some ground in his second round in moving into 33rd place with an 81, but was 21-over for two days and 20 shots behind the leader. Duguay started round two with a birdie but gave that shot back on the next hole and added three other bogeys on the front to make the turn at 3-over 39. He bogeyed three of the first four hole on the back to move to six over but gained a shot with a birdie on the par-5 14th hole to get to five over for the round. Unfortunately, a triple bogey, bogey finish left him at 9-over 81 after 36 holes.
Drew McCafferty won the three-day tournament with a 5, 221 total.
