John Leblanc, centre, hosted a golf tournament Aug. 16 that raised funds to help children in the region pay for their hockey. Corporate sponsors included Donald Bastarache of the Caisse Populaire in Eel River Crossing, Suzanne Duclos of the Caisse Populaire in Atholville, Ashley Irvine of AV Cell and Lionel Ahier of Dixie Lee. Other major sponsors were McDonalds, Irving, the UCT, Lounsbury (Dalhousie) and Martin's Grocery.

John Leblanc, a former NHL player and co-ordinator of the Campbellton Minor Hockey Association, started the tournament last year as a way to raise funds to help children and their families with the cost of playing hockey. Last winter, more than 20 youngsters were able to lace up their skates with their friends when they might not normally have been able to afford to.

LeBlanc said on the weekend he was very happy with the amount of money raised and the support the tournament has received in just two years.

"We're very happy to have been able to raise $9,000 this year and it couldn't have been possible without the support of the people who took part or from our sponsors."

LeBlanc wanted to specifically mention AV Cell, the Caisse Populaire (both Atholville and Eel River Crossing), Dixie Lee (Campbellton), Irving, Lounsbury (Dalhousie), Martin's Grocery and the United Commercial Travelers.
